6 Months In - 30lbs down

It is now just over 6 months since I took control of my health & fitness, stopped making excuses for myself and started doing what I needed to do start losing weight. Losing weight itself has not been too challenging, although I confess there has definitely been the odd moment of frustration when the scale result has been masked by water weight.

Fitness

Improving my fitness has definitely been the toughest part of my journey so far, I was by no means super lazy, I walked a lot but didn't do much else in the way of exercise, just occasionally used the bike at the gym. The first couple of months using my home gym were definitely a novelty to begin with and I was doing 5-6 days of workouts per week as well as walking. I have since cut it down a little, but I still love it, I now do 2-3 workouts at home per week. I am still mixing it up trying new videos out and new types of workout. I recently bought some resistance bands so I am looking forward to using them and I started C25K around 6 weeks ago, so my current fitness goal is to get that completed and be comfortable running 5km by September.

Weight Loss - Scale

I've averaged a loss of 1lb per week since I started, however it's in no way linear and there have been weeks when I haven't lost an ounce and weeks when I have shot up or down 5lb overnight. I have learned the importance of patience and education when it comes to how the body retains water. As you can see from the chart below, although there are ups and downs, in the grand scheme of things it's a downward curve which is the important thing. I weigh daily using the Libra app which was recommended in the My Fitness Pal community.

Weight Loss - Non Scale

In addition to the loss on the scale, I've also had many non-scale victories, particularly in the last couple of months:

  • Fitting into items of clothing that didn't fit before (I got the jeans below free from Avon to review and even though the blue ones of the same size fit a year ago, I've never been able to get into the black ones - until today - woohoo)

  • Lost inches from my waist, hips, chest, arms & thighs

  • Lowered my resting heart rate

  • Improved my lung capacity

  • Run further, longer and faster than I have been able to since I was a teen

  • Lifted heavier than I ever have

  • Made better food choices unconsciously

  • Reached a mountain peak (albeit a small one lol)

So today I feel invincible like Batman :-)
